The sun will come out tomorrow, and so will the new “Annie” movie! Okay, scratch that last part; the movie actually comes out in December, but we’re already excited!
Many people know the play from one the many movie adaptations throughout the years, or from the Broadway tours around the world. The famous show is about a young, red-headed orphan who befriends a big-dog billionaire and a stray dog named Sandy on an unusual quest to find her parents.
This time, though, there’s a twist… the classic image of a freckled, carrot-topped girl is no more! This movie version is bound to be different from all the ones we’ve seen, but don’t worry, the pup’s role is still secure and as important and adorable as ever! Quvenzhané Wallis, the youngest actress to ever be nominated for an Oscar for Best Actress, will take the spotlight as the titular role. A beautiful golden-coated dog will play her tail-wagging sidekick, Sandy.
Wallis, known for her starring role in “Beasts of the Southern Wild” is quite the dog-lover herself. Her signature accessory as a young Hollywood starlet isn’t Prada or Chanel, it’s Poochie & Co.! Quvenzhané has been seen sporting all sorts of bags from the youthful brand, and every last one is shaped like a dog!
Beasts of the Southern Wild launched the starlet’s career and gave her the experience of working with animals on a movie set. Even more: Wallis’ character was named Hushpuppy. Hushpuppy loves all creatures and feels deeply connected with everything around her. She listens to heartbeats, including those of the farm animals with whom she lives.
After her breakout starring role, Wallis landed a spot in “12 Years a Slave”, as if an Oscar nomination hadn’t already secured her spot as one to watch in the dog-eat-dog world of Hollywood.
There’s no doubt in our minds that Quvenzhané Wallis will wow us and have us clapping our paws and howling with applause yet again in this movie. You can bet your bottom dollar we’ll be watching and rooting for the underdog, Annie, on her New York adventures!
